Workshop Description:

Some professionals consider corrections-involved clients among the most difficult to work with for reasons ranging from perceived danger to clients' negative attitudes about mandated treatment.  This workshop will explore some of the challenges of working with corrections clients, while learning about some of the history and goals of correctional counseling.   Participants will explore various levels of correctional settings and client involvement and analyze the special considerations that lend credence to the challenges of working with this population.  Finally, participants will learn areas of competence and best approaches to working with corrections-involved clients.
 

Continuing Education Approval:

  • AODA Professionals: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Certification Board for the following categories: Counselor II, CARS II, MISA I or II, PCGC II, CCJP I or II, CRSS I or II, MAATP II, NCRS II, CFPP II.

  • Professional Counselors: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for LPCs and LCPCs.

  • Social Workers: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for LSWs and LCSWs.

  • Nurses: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for APNs, RNs and LPNs.
