Workshop Title:

Understanding the Impact of Trauma and Psychiatric Illness in Women

Credit Hours:

3

Location:

Chicago, Illinois

Date:

Saturday, May 5th

Tuition:

$45 Regular Rate

Workshop Description:

Female patients often respond to overwhelmingly negative events in their life such as sexual assault, domestic violence, miscarriage, post-partum depression, abandonment, break-ups, and death by engaging in dangerous activities such as drug/alcohol use and sex work, which can cause additional trauma. After experiencing an overwhelmingly traumatic experience many women may go through a period of depression or other psychiatric responses. This workshop will help clinical professionals support patients in accepting their diagnosis and learn how to cultivate a life apart from it. This workshop will also help professionals provide more empathic, gender-responsive and trauma-informed treatment to each individual patient. After this workshop clinical professionals will leave with a toolkit of pertinent insight on trauma as it relates to mental health, which they can directly incorporate into their own treatment practices.
