Workshop Description:

This workshop will walk professionals through the importance of cultural competence when working with patients/clients of varied backgrounds.  This training will highlight unique circumstances that may affect motivation for treatment, participation and recovery based on a patient’s racial/ethnic group, religious or spiritual affiliation, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, or other factors.  Through the use of a variety of learning methods, participants will learn multicultural competence theories and complete a self-assessment to determine both their individual and agency level of cultural competence.  Upon completion of this training, participants should be better equipped to address and/or accommodate aspects of a patient’s personal cultural in order to improve the patient experience, and most importantly, to improve treatment outcomes.  

Continuing Education Approval:

  • AODA Professionals: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CEUs as approved by the Illinois Certification Board for the following categories: Counselor I or II, Preventionist I or II, CARS I or II, MISA I or II, PCGC II, CCJP II, CAAP I, CRSS II, MAATP I or II, NCRS I or II, CFPP II.

  • Professional Counselors: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for LPCs and LCPCs.

  • Social Workers: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for LSWs and LCSWs.  *This seminar satisfies the cultural competence requirement for Illinois social workers.* 

  • Nurses: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for APNs, RNs and LPNs.
