Workshop Description:

Though the practice of herbal medicine is seen by some as an "alternative therapy", using herbs to heal has been practiced long before what is considered modern medicine. As the field of behavioral health continues to grow, as clinicians, it is important to understand trends in the field and have a basic grasp of healing therapies that your clients may seek. This workshop addresses the ways in which herbal medicine can be used to treat clients with various behavioral health challenges by providing a history of herbal medicine, useful terms, current trends, and discussion on the utility of herbal medicine in behavioral health, and learn about specific herbs that promote wellness. Additionally, since diet is an important aspect of herbal medicine, discussion will also center around the use of therapeutic foods to promote and optimize improvement of health and healing. This workshop will include a demonstration/practice portion will participants will have the opportunity to taste, prepare and/or apply these herbs and/or therapeutic foods.
