Workshop Description:

It’s safe to say that about fifty percent of our clientele are women.  However, even with women being half of the demographics we serve, the unique needs of women are often overlooked (think: having no childcare but being mandated to attend treatment).  This workshop aims to provide a historical context for the emergence of feminist counseling theory, while introducing participants to the basic tenets of feminist counseling theory.  Finally, this workshop will help participants identify how gender bias affects treatment outcomes, and how to build therapeutic alliances with clients utilizing appropriate interventions.

Continuing Education Approval:

• AODA Professionals: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Certification Board for the following categories: Counselor I or II, Preventionist I or II, CARS I or II, MISA I or II, PCGC II, CCJP II, CAAP I, CRSS II, MAATP I or II, NCRS I or II, CFPP II, GCE.

• Professional Counselors: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for LPCs and LCPCs.

• Social Workers: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for LSWs and LCSWs. *This seminar satisfies the cultural competence requirement for Illinois social workers.* 

• Nurses: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion for 3 CE hours/credits as approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for APNs, RNs and LPNs.
